Moths
Moths are well known for the tremendous damage they cause to fabrics and clothing. In the UK there are three main species which are responsible; the clothes moth, the brown house moth and the white shouldered moth. The clothes moth will tend to damage all clothes, while the brown house moth specialises in damage to animal-based textiles such as leather, wool and feathers. The White-shouldered house moth does not tend to damage fabrics. The larvae, or moth caterpillars, which are the main problem though, as they are the ones that make holes in fabrics as they eat and grow.
Treatment
Urban Pest Control can offer different treatment methods depending on the size of moth infestation. An insecticide ULV fogging machine or smoke generator can be applied within each room whilst a residual insecticide spray may be applied around windows, ceilings, walls and carpets. All treatments carried out adhere to COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Heath) Regulations 2002.
After treatment we can use moth monitoring traps which is an essential part of integrated pest management. Moth monitors are used to alert you to the presence of any new moth infestation entering your property. Most infestation begins from an adult moth flying in through open windows in the summer months.
