Falconry Pest Control Poole

How Birds of Prey are Used in Pest Control

Introducing birds of prey, such as Harris Hawks, to an established roosting area can have an immediate and long-lasting effect. This includes reducing the amount of bird fouling from feral pigeons, gulls, starlings and sparrows as well as displacing pigeons and gulls from taking up residence and discourage new arrivals to the premises.

The Bird of Prey Pest Control Programme we offer involves several visits from our in-house falconer and Harris Hawk to the effected site throughout the year. The falconer will put a plan in place regarding the number of flights required each week or month. This process is essential as each bird species require different approaches to successfully deter birds from the affected area.

Regular visits will reduce the amount of guano, feathers, nesting material and bird carcasses around your commercial site. Sites with a large or well established ’resident’ bird population may take numerous years of treatments to ensure the nesting bird population has been significantly reduced.

It does not matter what type of bird deterrent method is used it must be done legally. All UK birds are protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and it is illegal to remove their eggs and nests or disturb them once they have begun nesting.

Urban Pest Control can also offer bird proofing measures such as pigeon nettinganti-perching, bird wire systems and guano removal. Alongside the use of our Harris Hawk, these techniques will ensure that your environment remains free of infestation.
