Emergency Pest Control and Removal Wimborne
The quintessential market town of Wimborne is just a short drive inland from the Dorset coast, surrounded by rural views and lined by the flowing River Stour which offers spectacular scenery whatever the weather holds.
Named after the Minster which stands with pride in the centre of town, Wimborne has been a busy town for residents and visitors alike for over 1300 years. Wimborne Minster itself started as a nunnery and monastery in the times of the Saxons – in fact it was the King of the West Saxon’s sister that started the nunnery. It is said to be the resting place of King Alfred the Great’s brother, King Ethelred, king of Wessex from 865-871. The Minster is built from Dorset limestone and New Forest stone, with extensions that have Norman and Gothic architecture. It is home to the second largest chained library with works that include the book of sermons which belonged to Catherine of Aragon, as well as the tombs of King Henry VII’s maternal grandparents. Wimborne Minster has an ancient working quarterjack clock. This astronomical clock, which chimes every hour and has the sun and moon circling the earth, can be found in the west tower.
Wimborne Minster may be the main focal point in Wimborne, but the town has plenty of other attractions to offer too. The popular Allendale Centre holds events for visitors of all ages as well as a market every Friday. Located in an 18th century mill, the Walford Mill Craft Centre is a dream for many local artists and art lovers, while the Museum of East Dorset holds many of the town’s historical artefacts. Among the visitor attractions, the high street of Wimborne has plenty of quaint, independent boutiques and cafes. The hidden courtyards are filled with charming specialist businesses and eateries. The art deco Tivoli Theatre entertains many with their on-stage productions and screen shows. At Urban Pest Control we are dedicated to helping all of the fantastic local businesses remain pest-free by offering superior pest control in Wimborne and throughout the wider area.
The town has been reflected in the Wimborne Model Town and Gardens. These miniature versions of the grade 1 & 2 listed buildings of the town’s rich heritage show what the town looked like back in the fifties. There is a tremendous attention to detail in the display, and it even features a small running stream to represent the River Allen flowing through the Wimborne. You can also enjoy a sensory garden, tearoom as well as the dolls house and model railway exhibitions.
The River Allen, a chalk stream, starts at Wyke Farm in Winterbourne and flows for 14 miles to Wimborne passing through water cress farms, water mills and private land. Brown trout and white crayfish are just two of the species which thrive in the Allen. However, due to many of the river’s banks being privately owned, fishing may not be permitted. It’s always best to check the rod fishing byelaws before you cast off. The River Allen joins the River Stour in Wimborne. The River Stour’s source is in Stourhead, Wiltshire, continuously flowing downstream to the mouth of the river at Christchurch Harbour, where it then continues out into the English channel. As well as fishing, if you are a member of the Wimborne & District Angling Club, there are many other activities to enjoy on the Stour in Wimborne. Many geocaches are hidden for seekers to find and Dreamboats offer paddle boarding and kayak hire for keen water sports enthusiasts.
The surrounding areas of Ferndown, Verwood, Corfe Mullen and Cole Hill are as appealing to families and households as Wimborne Minster, with rural charm and links to local schools (some of which boast the highest G.C.S.E results in Dorset). Stunning views across the heathland and leisurely walks through the glorious paths in the venetian gardens at Kingston Lacy are just some of the nature that can be enjoyed locally. Wimborne also offers quick access roads to Ringwood, Blandford and Poole – it’s easy to see why so many people are attracted to Wimborne to visit or even to settle down.
