Pigeon Spiking at Southbourne Tennis Club
Just 2.6 km away from Southbourne’s sandy beachfront and next to Ilford Lane Playing Fields, home of East Dorset Dockers RFC and the popular Bournemouth BMX track, is Southbourne Tennis Club.
Originally formed in 1965 after the amalgamation of two separate tennis clubs, Riverside and 23rd, Southbourne Tennis Club is a fantastic organisation that hosts social and competitive tennis for players of all ages. Managed by a dedicated committee, the club offers a wide range of activities including one on one and group coaching, as well as the increasingly popular game pickleball. Southbourne Tennis Club boasts excellent facilities with 6 floodlit courts, practice wall, clubhouse with kitchen and onsite car park enjoyed by over 450 members. The club aims to offer fun and accessible tennis to all, with coaching and activities available for people of all abilities. An important part of the local community, Southbourne Tennis Club often hosts charity matches to raise money and awareness for local projects and causes.
The facilities at the club are so fantastic that even the local pigeons want to get involved! Unfortunately, these feathered visitors have a habit of causing damage to the floodlights and leaving droppings all over the tennis courts so the committee contacted Urban Pest Control in search of an effective bird control solution.
Working together with Charles from Malum Southern Pest Control, our expert bird team were more than happy to offer their assistance. Utilising a scaffold tower and boom lift we installed pigeon spiking on the club’s floodlights to discourage these pesky birds from perching on them, preventing the pigeons from damaging the lights and covering the ground below in guano. Our pest control specialists benefit from IPAF and PASMA training, allowing them to work at height on scaffolds and powered machines with confidence and in a safe manner. Southbourne Tennis Club were very pleased with the results and their members will most definitely enjoy playing tennis on pest-free courts.
Should you require bird proofing at your commercial property in Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch, Dorchester and Weymouth and the surrounding areas please do not hesitate to contact Urban Pest Control for a free site survey.
